  Biography:

Roy Slater joined the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the Clearwater Campus in 1993. Slater earned a BA degree in Political Science and a MA degree in Political Science from Jackson State University. He has held membership in the Florida Political Science Association and the Southern Political Science Association. At the college he has served on the Academic Honesty Committee, Curriculum and Instruction Committee, Student Disciplinary Board, the Instructional Technology Advisory Group (ITAG), and Clearwater campus faculty governance. He holds membership in Pi Gamma Mu International Honor Society in Social Science and membership in Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society. He is immediate past president of the Dr. Johnnie Ruth Clarke Chapter (St. Petersburg College) of the National Council on Black American Affairs, a Council of the American Association of Community Colleges. In 1993 the Office of Research Administration at Jackson State University selected him as one of four graduate scholars. In 2003 he received the Bob Graham Community College Distinguished Service Award for faculty, and in 2004 and 2005 he was selected for inclusion in Who's Who Among America's Teachers.  In 2006 he received the NCBAA's Dr. Johnnie Ruth Clarke Award for his work in the profession and the community.

Slater conducts classes in national government, state and local government, and comparative government.
