  Biography:

Martin Smith is a graduate of American Intercontinental University and St Petersburg College, FL Health Information Management Program. He achieved the credential of RHIT in 2003 and CCA in 2004. He has been an instructor at SPC since the spring of 2003. He completed his Masters degree of Education in Instructional Technology in 2006.  He completed his graduate studies in Healthcare Informatics at The College of St Scholastica and is currently working on his doctorate degree. He is an active member in local and state associations and currently serves on the board of directors at the Florida Health Information Management Association (FHIMA).

Mr. Smith comes from England where he was a police officer in the Metropolitan Police Service at New Scotland Yard. He has worked at Tampa General Hospital, Mease Countryside and Mease Dunedin Hospitals and was a LPN in the US Army prior to entering the HIM program. He worked as a coder at Shriners Hospital for Children and is now the Program Director of the Health Information Management/Informatics Department here at SPC.

Hobbies include soccer, restoring old British sports cars, movies, historic reading and training his dog the "Dog Whisperer" way.
